On Friday 11th April we hosted a play with Women & Theatre called “Spring’s Sprung”, a lively medley of music, humour and stories of spring time. The play took a look through windows into the lives three people – Stella, Nina and Samson – who shared their recent troubles and explained why they’re not in the mood to enjoy spring this year.
Stella (left) has lost her husband and just wants to grieve on her own, Nina (right) has had a stroke and feels useless and embarrassed and Samson (centre) is feeling the pinch with rising bills that he can’t afford to pay.
Audience members were invited to participate to share their own ideas for how each character could move past the difficulties they were facing and find happiness again. Several of our Ageing Well and Children Services families were able to take part in the play, making this an interactive and partially improvised performance.
The play was entertaining and by using real stories that audience members can relate to and may indeed have experienced themselves at some point, the play held the audience captivated and connected them into the stories.
In the end Stella, Nina and Samson took the advice they were given, made changes in their lives and were able to find happiness again.
Spring is the perfect time to start afresh, do new things and find enjoyment again. Speaking to one service user afterwards, she told us “When spring comes, happiness comes out too.”
